A green apple-like fruit (pome) follows the flowers, ripening in fall. The fruit, while too sour to eat raw, can be used for making jelly and preserves. Clean, shiny dark green leaves on a low, spreading form with thorny branches. Add to the shrub border for the spring flower effect or use as a low barrier plant.
