Plant Parenthood: Propagation How-To’s Workshop
With the love of plants, especially houseplants, we have all become "Plant Parents". As parents, we would all like to have more in our collections or we would like to share the ones we love with our friends. Our horticulturist will teach 5 different propagation techniques - leaf rooting, stem rooting, basic cutting rooting, plant division and "kiki" technique. Everyone will go home with 5 "baby" plants to take care of! All materials are provided (plants, pots, planting mix and starter fertilizer) for the pre-registration fee of $19.99 plus tax.

2020 Top Spring Plants with Jim Nau
Jim Nau, most recently the Cultural Advisor and Horticultural Historian at Ball Horticultural Company, will present the best plants to use for Spring 2020. Jim is a fixture in the industry and has received many awards and accolades for his work, such as the PPA’s Garden Media Award. He’s also authored several books, including the Ball Culture Guide and the Ball Perennial Manual, and edited the 18th and 19th editions of the Ball RedBook. Jim is returning to the Chalet Learning Center by popular demand!

Pantone Color of the Year “Classic Blue” Home Décor Tips with Jamie Schachtel Design Group
Jamie and Olivia Schachtel from Jamie Schachtel Design Group will be joining us in the Learning Center to show us how we can incorporate Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year, “Classic Blue” into our homes and spaces.

Success with Rhododendrons & Azaleas
Tony Fulmer is Chalet’s Chief Horticulture Officer. One of his plant loves is the acid soil loving group of plants, the Rhododendrons and Azaleas. For many years, this group was considered marginally successful in the Chicagoland region. These are gorgeous flowering shrubs, some evergreen, some that drop their leaves in Winter. Learn the best varieties that are “happy” growing here. Tony will teach the planting techniques, the fertilizers to use, and the special “tricks” to do to enjoy these plants in your garden.

Faux Floral Arrangements Demo
Follow along while one of our talented designers demos some unique creations using our beautiful silks. We will be demoing how to decorate with spring blooming branches, creating a floral dog collar, a floral ribbon headband, a Dutch Masters floral design, spring wreath and basic bouquet. Learn tips and tricks to decorating with silks and get a special look at our curated permeant botanic collection. The best parts of decorating with artificial flowers? They’ll last forever!

Pet Yappy Hour
Sip and shop with your pooch at Chalet. Enjoy a drink while your pup samples various pet drinks and treats.

Pet Adoption Event
Chalet and Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter are partnering up on Sunday from 12:00-3:00 p.m. in the Pet Living department to help find some loveable dogs a permanent home. Stick around for our Pet Yappy Hour from 3 - 5PM.

Best Annuals for 2020 with Mark Dwyer
Guest speaker, Mark Dwyer, will be speaking about the best annuals to use in your garden for the 2020 season. Mark Dwyer is a horticulture speaker, educator and author. He has degrees in landscape architecture and urban forestry and is former Director of Horticulture at the Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville. He is a horticultural consultant, designer and speaker with his company, Landscape Prescriptions by MD. Mark Dwyer’s true passion is growing, observing and photographing all types of plants. His depth of knowledge, examples he designed and maintained, and spectacular photography make his presentations compelling and inspiring.

Get a preview of some items that you will help you be successful gardening with beautiful results in the 2020 season. Our Chalet horticulturists will introduce you to tools that will make the work easier; fertilizers that will make the flowering plants perform better and the vegetable plants produce more; hats that will protect you from the sun; watering equipment that is efficient and easy to program; repellents that will protect the plants; and much, much more…
Chalet Sprouts is a program designed to help connect your child a bit closer with nature through hands-on workshops, story time, and more. Ideal for kids, ages 5-10, each class is held on one Saturday every month from 1-2 pm.
