Northwind Switch Grass features airy plumes of rose flowers rising above the foliage in mid summer. Its attractive grassy leaves are olive green in color. As an added bonus, the foliage turns a gorgeous gold in the fall. The brick red seed heads are carried on showy plumes displayed in abundance from late summer to mid fall. The tan stems can be quite attractive.
Tough and handsome native ornamental grass is especially useful in hot, dry areas. Narrow, fine-textured leaves form an arching, rounded mound, the leaves turning gold brushed with orange in fall, then tan in winter. Airy pinkish brown flowers rise well above the foliage in late summer, eventually dropping their mature seeds in late fall. Some say the flowers smell like popcorn with a hint of cilantro! Best in not-too-rich, sharply draining soil. Pairs well with Aster, Butterfly Weed (Asclepias) and Coneflower (Echinacea).
This compact selection forms a small, upright clump of striking blue-green leaves; airy heads of dark red flowers appear on plumes in late summer; perfect as an accent or massed in borders
Short grass-like Sedge. Delicate and semi-evergreen with slender leaves and interesting flowers. Grows in shade or part sun. Prefers dry to well-drained soil. It can do well in more sunny locations with adequate moisture and can be used as a lawn substitute. Can be mowed as low as 2". Is clump-forming and will not create a solid mat.
Fountain Grass is an excellent all-season performer which looks great planted alone or used in groups to add fabulous texture and winter interest to mixed borders. Graceful, slender dark green leaves form a perfect round mound. In early summer silvery to pinkish white bottlebrush-like flowers spray like a fountain outward from the foliage, hence the common name. The flowers gradually turn a tan color and are effective until early winter. In early spring, before new growth emerges, cut foliage back to a few inches.
Shenandoah Reed Switch Grass features airy plumes of rose flowers rising above the foliage in mid summer. Its attractive grassy leaves are green in color with prominent ruby-red tips. As an added bonus, the foliage turns a gorgeous burgundy in the fall. The brick red seed heads are carried on showy plumes displayed in abundance from late summer to mid fall. Japanese Woodland Grass is primarily valued in the garden for its cascading habit of growth. It grassy leaves are green in color. The foliage often turns tan in fall.
An attractive clumping ornamental grass with fine-textured, silver-green blades that turn golden-bronze after first frost. A great specimen for adding texture to shrub borders and perennial beds, or for massing as a screen.

Evergold Variegated Japanese Sedge's attractive grassy leaves are creamy white in color with distinctive dark green edges. The foliage often turns brown in fall.
Lucerne Blue-Eyed Grass has masses of beautiful plumes of lavender flowers with blue overtones, lemon yellow eyes and violet veins at the ends of the stems from late spring to early summer, which are most effective when planted in groupings. Its attractive glossy narrow leaves emerge silvery blue in spring, turning bluish-green in color throughout the season.

The foliage often turns tan in fall. The creamy white seed heads are carried on showy plumes displayed in abundance from early fall to late winter.
Big Bluestem, a native grass of the Midwestern prairie, has been rediscovered as a useful and beautiful landscape plant. Drought tolerant and easy to maintain, it is a natural choice for prairie, meadow and naturalistic plantings. But, Andropogon gerardii is also great as a background or accent in mixed plantings. Big Bluestem is especially interesting when in bloom - its curiously shaped seed heads resemble upside-down turkey feet.
The gracefully arching stems of Ice Dance Sedge are a beautiful forest green with prominent white stripes. This evergreen perennial grass is perfect for mass planting, groundcover, and even as a filler in outdoor containers. The grass will only require occasional maintenance, but gardeners should be aware that it is prone to spreading.

Autumn Moor Grass' attractive grassy leaves are steel blue in color on a plant with a spreading habit of growth. The foliage often turns bluish-green in fall.
This lovely ornamental grass enlivens shady areas or containers with its brightly colored foliage and graceful, flowing form. Aureola features slender, bright yellow leaves with a green stripe that flushes red in the fall. Interesting, dainty flowers extend outward from the foliage in August and September. For best foliage color and form choose a site in dappled sun, morning sun or late afternoon sun as hot midday sun will burn the leaves. In too much shade, the leaves lose their bright color and the plant becomes spindly.
Porcupine Grass is an herbaceous perennial grass with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its medium texture blends into the garden, but can always be balanced by a couple of finer or coarser plants for an effective composition.
This plant will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best cleaned up in early spring before it resumes active growth for the season. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Muskingum Sedge Grass is a dense clump-forming wetland sedge with striking texture. Leaves are attractive, bright green, and reminiscent of palm fronds, and prospers in shaded or partly shaded wet sites but will tolerate sun if sufficient moisture is present. Native to the Great Lakes region, Muskingum Sedge Grass makes a striking accent.
