Blue Ice Star Flower has blue star-shaped flowers at the ends of the stems from late spring to early summer, which are interesting on close inspection. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its narrow leaves are light green in color. As an added bonus, the foliage turns a gorgeous yellow in the fall.
Miniature plant with wavy, thick leaves of blue-green, with creamy yellow margins; dainty pale lavender flowers emerge on proportionately short scapes; perfect for shade and woodland gardens. Mini Skirt Hosta is a dense herbaceous perennial with tall flower stalks held atop a low mound of foliage. Halcyon Hosta features dainty spikes of lavender bell-shaped flowers rising above the foliage in mid summer. Its attractive textured heart-shaped leaves emerge blue in spring, turning bluish-green in color throughout the season.
Butterscotch Amsonia is a native perennial with striking reddish stems and leaves that turn a rich, butterscotch color in fall. They will reward you with loads of blue-grey flowers in summer. This variety has increased disease resistance. Butterscotch Amsonia attracts early-season butterflies; deer and rabbits tend to avoid it.
Trouble-free, long-blooming Russian Sage is a great plant for beginners. From July to October, spires of light blue flowers decorate the top of stiff, upright stems. The aromatic, lacy gray-green foliage is a perfect foil for coarser leaved plants and looks especially good with pink and yellow flowers like Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia), Coneflower (Echinacea), Phlox and Roses. Russian Sage is a woody shrub in warmer climates, but in the North the stems need to be cut back in early spring.
This petite powerhouse is one of the smallest panicle hydrangeas out there, growing less than 2’ tall. Abundant white flowers held on sturdy stems absolutely smother this dwarf shrub in summer. Spent blooms can be left on through winter, adding a soft touch of melancholic charm through the darker months. Prune back to next season’s buds in early spring.

Exceptionally cold-hardy, this late season Azalea can withstand temperatures as low as to -20 °F (-29 °C). A wonderful landscape plant that deserves a place near a patio, deck or living area, where its delightful fragrance can be enjoyed.
