Eastern Redcedar is highly valued in landscaping for its unique growth pattern, featuring a distinctive pyramid shape. Its bluish-green evergreen foliage is both attractive and ornamental, turning a slight red in fall and lasting throughout the winter. From late spring to late winter, it produces beautiful silvery blue berries. This common native tree can be found in all counties of Illinois and thrives in various habitats, such as upland woodlands, rocky bluffs, and sand dunes. It is also commonly used in landscaping and as a windbreak. As a pioneer tree, Eastern Red Cedar is well-suited for sunny and often dry areas.
