Spotted Gateway Joe Pye Weed is a showstopping native perennial with large, domed clusters of mauve-pink flowers topping strong, spotted purple stems in summer and fall. Growing 5 to 9 feet tall, it commands the back of the border or naturalized areas, where its impressive scale and native habitat value can be fully appreciated. As a Great Lakes native, it is a monarch butterfly magnet in late summer, drawing not just monarchs but swallowtails, fritillaries, and dozens of other pollinator species to its nectar-rich blooms. Deer and rabbit resistant with excellent disease resistance, the seed heads persist attractively through fall and winter for birds. Cold hardy and Juglone tolerant.
