Striking apricot-pink colored plumes rising above glossy leaves; perfect in a shady spot with dappled light; prefers moisture so water regularly for abundant flowers and nice foliage
Tough and handsome native ornamental grass is especially useful in hot, dry areas. Narrow, fine-textured leaves form an arching, rounded mound, the leaves turning gold brushed with orange in fall, then tan in winter. Airy pinkish brown flowers rise well above the foliage in late summer, eventually dropping their mature seeds in late fall. Some say the flowers smell like popcorn with a hint of cilantro! Best in not-too-rich, sharply draining soil. Pairs well with Aster, Butterfly Weed (Asclepias) and Coneflower (Echinacea).

Cheyenne Spirit Coneflower has masses of beautiful lightly-scented orange daisy flowers with red overtones and coppery-bronze eyes at the ends of the stems from mid summer to mid fall, which are most effective when planted in groupings. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its pointy leaves remain green in color throughout the season.

The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its fragrant narrow leaves remain green in color throughout the season. The burgundy stems are very colorful and add to the overall interest of the plant.
This is no lamb's ear! Long-blooming flowers over tidy clumps of emerald green foliage make Hummelo a go-to plant for every garden. Dramatic planted as an edger or on the border front. Dense rosettes of fresh green leaves provide the base for spikes of rosy purple flowers that rise in June and July, lasting for several weeks. Does not flop or get raggedy, even in poor weather. Pretty paired with summer-blooming Tickseed (Coreopsis), Cranesbill (Geranium) and Phlox.

Eye-catching early spring flowers and a spreading, ground-hugging form make Creeping Phlox a fantastic plant for edging, rock gardens, and spilling down walls. Dense, evergreen, needle-like foliage remains a rich emerald green all season long. Star-shaped bright lavender blue flowers literally smother the foliage for several weeks in May and early June. Also makes a fine small-scale groundcover. Well-drained soil is a must.
Concord Grape Spiderwort has masses of beautiful clusters of purple flowers at the ends of the stems from early to late summer, which are most effective when planted in groupings. Its attractive grassy leaves remain bluish-green in color throughout the season.
Late-blooming, moisture-loving Hot Lips Turtlehead is perfect for bog gardens, waterside or any moist area in the garden. It's upright, spreading stems are clothed in gorgeous glossy, very dark green leaves. Hot pink flowers, resembling little turtle heads, bloom at the tips of the stems in August and September. Pair with Cranesbill (Geranium), Foxglove (Digitalis), Meadowsweet (Filipendula), Windflower (Anemone) and Siberian Iris. Named after a Greek god, Chelone, who insulted the gods and was turned into a turtle! Deer and bunny resistant.
