Hudson Valley Seed Co. Marigold Medley Seeds
$4.99
Unit price perHudson Valley Seed Co. Marigold Medley Seeds
$4.99
Unit price perBring your garden to life with this mix of festive marigolds. The bright orange and strong-scented Cempazuchitl, or marigold, was the Aztec symbol of death. Throughout Mexico, it is used to this day to decorate graves and altars in Dia de Los Muertos festivals. Anything but morbid, the garlands, crosses, and lined pathways made from thousands of marigold blooms celebrate life, while the papel picado paper banners hang overhead in festive rows. Look closely at the art on this pack and you can see the celebration of life and death that plays out in our gardens every year.
Contains Crackerjack, Petite Mix, Naughty Marietta, and Sparky French marigolds.
Botanical Interests Provider Bush Bean Organic Seeds
$6.49
Unit price perBotanical Interests Provider Bush Bean Organic Seeds
$6.49
Unit price perYour neighbors will love all your extra beans! 'Provider' is a high-yielding and early producing bean with great disease resistance to bean common mosaic virus (NY15), pod mottle virus, and mildew. These stringless, straight beans germinate in cooler soils than other beans, allowing for earlier sowing. One of the best for freezing and canning. Delicious fresh bean flavor from this 1965 cultivar.
When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 65°F, ideally 70°–85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.
When to Start Inside: Not recommended; bean seedlings are sensitive to root disturbance.
Days to Emerge: 6–12 days
Seed Depth: 1"
Seed Spacing: 1 seed every 4"
Row Spacing: 24"
Thinning: Not required
Botanical Interests Grandmother's Cut Flower Garden Mix Seeds
$6.49
Unit price perBotanical Interests Grandmother's Cut Flower Garden Mix Seeds
$6.49
Unit price perThis mix will evoke images of the simpler, less hurried time in which our grandmothers lived. An old-fashioned cutting garden was often no more than a corner of the vegetable garden where a few flower seeds were tossed. Their lovely, cheerful blossoms were a bonus after the hard work of sowing, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. Cold Climates: 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date. You can also sow half the seed 4 to 6 weeks before your average last frost date (hoping the last frost is earlier than usual) and sow the second half a week or two after your average last frost date (just to be safe). Mild Climates: Fall through early spring.
When to Start Inside: Not recommended.
Days to Emerge: 7–20 days
Seed Depth: ⅛–¼"
Seed Spacing: Scatter about 20 seeds per sq. ft. and rake in
Thinning: As needed
Botanical Interests Romanesco Fennel Organic Seeds
$2.99
Unit price perBotanical Interests Romanesco Fennel Organic Seeds
$2.99
Unit price perYou are in for a real treat with this gourmet, but often overlooked, garden wonder. Also called Roman or Florence fennel, the crisp, bulbous stem has a delicious, anise flavor and can be eaten raw, sautéed, fried, and used in soups or pasta. Feathery foliage is attractive and is an excellent fresh garnish. Seed can also be harvested as a spice. For best "bulb" production, sow for fall harvest.
When to Sow Outside: "For "bulb": Midsummer for fall harvest is optimal; ideal soil temperature is 60°–75°F. In cool summer areas (under 75°F): 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost. Mild Climates: Sow in fall for cool season harvest. For foliage only: Every 3 weeks after average last frost until midsummer.
When to Start Inside: 4 to 6 weeks before average last frost (recommended for spring "bulb" production). Use biodegradable pots for transplant.
Days to Emerge: 7–14 days
Seed Depth: ¼"
Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 10"
Row Spacing: 10"
Thinning: When 1" tall, thin to 1 every 10"

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 40°F, ideally 60°–70°F. Successive Sowings: Every 3 weeks until 4 to 6 weeks before your average first fall frost date. Mild Climates: Sow in fall and winter for cool season harvests.

Seed Savers Painted Lady Improved Runner Bean
$4.25
Unit price perSeed Savers Painted Lady Improved Runner Bean
$4.25
Unit price perPainted Lady Improved (aka Bicolor Runner, Painted Runner), Friar Antonio de Arrabida described this species in Flora of Rio de Janeiro in 1827. Incredibly beautiful bi-colored blossoms are very attractive to hummingbird moths. This strain is less affected by warmer temperatures than other runner beans and is a prolific bloomer. Esteemed as both an ornamental and edible climber.
Growing Instructions: Sow seeds outdoors after danger of frost has passed and soil and air temperatures have warmed. Runner beans prefer full sun, although they tolerate part shade very well. Young pods can be eaten whole, or the beans can be eaten fresh or dried. Even the flowers are edible.
