Emerald Green Arborvitae is a dwarf conifer which is primarily valued in the landscape for its rigidly columnar form. It has emerald green evergreen foliage. The scale-like sprays of foliage remain emerald green throughout the winter.
An extraordinary and stunning variety presenting multiple clusters of bright lavender-pink blooms on a hardy and dense compact shrub. A beautiful presentation as a garden focal point, it has an open multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a more or less rounded form. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other landscape plants with finer foliage. Unusually flower bud hardy, it will survive to -25 °F. Very tolerant of higher pH soils as well. Lower leaves drop off in Jan, with leaves right under flower buds persisting.
Robust spreading evergreen, can be used in many different ways. Soft, dark green needles emerge bright green in spring. Plant 2.5 to 3 feet apart to create a beautifully trimmed hedge, or much farther apart to allow for natural spread. May be trimmed in early summer. Amend heavy clay soil with shredded pine bark and add soil sulfur to lower the pH. Flower bud hardy to -25F.

Grows slowly into a low, thick cushion of small dark green leaves that turn mahogany with the onset of cold weather. In mid-spring, the plant is smothered by funnel-shaped, wavy-edged bright red flowers. To ensure success this plant must have loose, acidic soil that drains well and will fail in wet, heavy, poorly draining clay.
