Paint Magenta Dianthus brings vivid, saturated color to the sunny border with its profuse, fringed flowers that bloom from late spring through summer in a rich, jewel-toned shade that holds up through summer heat without fading. The attractive bluish-green, narrow foliage is an ornamental asset in its own right, providing a cool-toned backdrop that makes the bright flower color pop. It grows in a neat, mounding form reaching twelve to eighteen inches, fitting neatly at the front of a border, along a path edge, or in mixed containers where its long bloom season provides continuous color. Deer and rabbits leave it alone, and it tolerates black walnut root zone conditions without difficulty. Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage the next flush, and cut it back lightly in midsummer to freshen the foliage and promote strong repeat flowering.
