New growth emerges with a handsome bronze cast, matures to deep green, then warms to red-burgundy as autumn approaches — a long run of interest from a single plant. Standing two to three feet tall, its full, mounding form is made for massing in a shaded bed or enlivening a damp, hard-to-fill corner. Astilbe is a moisture-lover, so settle Fanal into reliably moist soil with gentle morning sun or dappled light and it will thrive.
