Alleghany (rhytidophylloides) is an all-season large viburnum with beautiful foliage, flowers and fruit. Leaves are very dark green with a pronounced fuzzy texture. Showy yellowish white flowers in May are followed in September and October by incredible fruit clusters in which the berries gradually change from brilliant red to purple to black at maturity. The plant grows quickly into a dense, globose shape. The leaves tend to hang on late into the fall without appreciable fall color. Ideal plant for massing in the shrub border. Plant with Mohican viburnum for better fruit display.
