Purple Coneflower Care Instructions

Planting

Location:

Select a sunny location with well-drained soil for optimal growth. Ensure it is sheltered from strong winds to promote healthy development.

Spacing:

Space these Coneflowers 18 to 24 inches apart to allow for their natural growth habit and ensure adequate air circulation.

Watering

Water it regularly, ensuring the soil remains moderately moist but not soggy, particularly during dry spells, as this perennial thrives best with consistent hydration.

Fertilizing

Fertilize it in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support healthy growth and vibrant blooms throughout the growing season.

Pruning

Prune spent blooms and dead foliage in late fall to encourage healthy growth and more vibrant flowers in the following season. Spent flowerheads can be left to attract birds.

Mulching

Apply a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant in late spring to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

Purple Coneflower has masses of beautiful lightly-scented purple daisy flowers with coppery-bronze eyes at the ends of the stems from mid summer to early fall, which are most effective when planted in groupings, also attracting pollinators. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its pointy leaves remain green in color throughout the season.
