For over 100 years, Chalet has been the trusted go-to destination for Chicagoland gardeners. Our horticultural experts have crafted care instructions with the unique characteristics of our local soil and weather in mind, so that you can feel confident helping your plants flourish.

Planting

Location:

Select a sunny location with well-drained soil for optimal growth. Ensure it is sheltered from strong winds to promote healthy development.

Spacing:

Space these Coneflowers 18 to 24 inches apart to allow for their natural growth habit and ensure adequate air circulation.

Watering

Water it regularly, ensuring the soil remains moderately moist but not soggy, particularly during dry spells, as this perennial thrives best with consistent hydration.

Fertilizing

Fertilize it in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support healthy growth and vibrant blooms throughout the growing season.

Pruning

Prune spent blooms and dead foliage in late fall to encourage healthy growth and more vibrant flowers in the following season. Spent flowerheads can be left to attract birds.

Mulching

Apply a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant in late spring to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
