Planting

Location:

Choose a shaded to partially shaded area for optimal growth, as this variety thrives in cooler, moist conditions. Ensure the soil is rich and well-draining to support its lush foliage.

Spacing:

To allow for its mature spread and promote healthy airflow, space these hostas 18 to 24 inches apart. Proper spacing prevents overcrowding, which can lead to competition for nutrients and moisture. This also helps to reduce the risk of fungal diseases, ensuring a lush, healthy display of its striking foliage.

Watering

Maintain consistent moisture especially during dry spells. The soil should be kept evenly moist but never waterlogged. Lack of moisture can stress the plant and lead to browning on the leaf edges.

Fertilizing

An annual application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring is all this perennial needs. This feeding provides the necessary nutrients to support vigorous growth and its rich, blue-green foliage throughout the season. Apply the fertilizer evenly around the base of the plant before new growth fully emerges.

Pruning

In late fall, prune back the foliage of this hosta to the ground. This practice helps to remove any dead or damaged leaves and is a proactive step to prevent slugs and other pests from overwintering. It prepares the plant for a fresh, healthy start in the spring.

Mulching

To help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature, apply a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant in early spring. This mulch layer is especially beneficial for keeping the roots cool and moist during warmer months.
