Planting

Location:

Choose a shaded or partially shaded area for optimal growth of this perennial, as it thrives in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Ensure protection from harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch and promote vibrant foliage.

Spacing:

Space them 18 to 24 inches apart to allow for their mature size and optimal air circulation.

Watering

Water regularly to maintain consistently moist soil without waterlogging, especially during dry spells.

Fertilizing

Fertilize annually in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support healthy growth and vibrant foliage.

Pruning

Prune the foliage back in early spring before new growth begins to maintain the plant's health and appearance.

Mulching

Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of your Francee Hosta in late spring to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

Grown at our Chalet Farm in WI, Francee Hosta features dainty spikes of lilac purple bell-shaped flowers rising above the foliage in mid summer. Its attractive textured heart-shaped leaves remain forest green in color with distinctive white edges throughout the season. A dense herbaceous perennial with tall flower stalks held atop a low mound of foliage, the medium texture blends into the garden, but can always be balanced by a couple of finer or coarser plants for an effective composition.
