Planting

Location:

Choose a location with partial shade to full shade for optimal growth of this perennial. Ensure the soil is well-drained and rich in organic matter to support healthy development.

Spacing:

Plant approximately 12 to 24 inches apart to allow for its mature spread and to promote healthy air circulation.

Watering

Water your Bleeding Heart regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy, especially during dry spells to support its lush foliage.

Fertilizing

Fertilize this perennial in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support its growth and flowering.

Pruning

Prune the plant back to the ground in late fall after the foliage has died back to promote healthy regrowth in spring. In very hot summers, this perennial may die back in the summertime.

Mulching

Add a 2 to 3-inch layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant in early spring to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
