Blue Hill Salvia Care Instructions

Planting

Location:

Choose a well-drained location that receives full sun to partial shade for optimal growth. Ensure the soil is rich and amended with organic matter to support this perennial's thriving habit.

Spacing:

Space 18 to 24 inches apart to allow for its full growth and air circulation.

Watering

Water it regularly, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during its establishment period.

Fertilizing

Fertilize it with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support vigorous growth and flowering throughout the growing season.

Pruning

Prune it back by one-third in early spring to promote healthy growth and abundant blooms throughout the season.

Mulching

Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant in early spring to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

Salvia, Blue Hill

Blue Hill is noted for its softly colored flowers and long season of bloom. Spikes of lilac blue flowers rise above clumps of dense, gray-green foliage in June, lasting for several weeks and attracting many butterflies and pollinators. Plant in groups to maximize the fantastic floral display. Good companions include Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum) and Pink Tickseed (Coreopsis). Removing faded flowers really helps to extend the blooming period.
