The Dawn Redwood is a living fossil, once known only from fossils until its rediscovery in China last century. This fast-growing deciduous conifer forms a striking, symmetrical pyramid of soft, ferny green needles that turn warm copper-bronze before dropping in fall. Reaching grand heights, it makes a magnificent specimen for parks and larger landscapes. Plant it in full sun in moist soil, where it grows remarkably quickly into a stately tree. Its fluted, reddish trunk and feathery foliage lend year-round interest. For a tree with history and presence, the Dawn Redwood is unforgettable.
