Lil Bang Starlight Coreopsis packs an impressive show into a compact, twelve-to-eighteen-inch mound—its narrow-petaled, star-like yellow blooms appearing in abundance from summer through fall above finely textured green foliage. A tough and drought-tolerant perennial for full sun, it fits neatly near the front of the border or in mixed container plantings where its long bloom season provides reliable color when many other perennials are fading. Butterflies visit the flowers throughout the season, and the seed heads that follow attract small birds. Deer and rabbits leave it alone, and it handles the root zone near black walnut trees without difficulty. Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage the next flush, and cut back lightly in midsummer if it starts to look leggy for a fresh round of growth and color.
