Fort McNair Red Horsechestnut is a showy flowering shade tree crowned in spring with large, upright panicles of rosy-red blooms tipped in yellow. The bold, palmate leaves provide a lush, tropical texture and dense summer shade. More resistant to leaf scorch than other horsechestnuts, it holds its handsome looks through the season. Plant it in full sun, where it forms a rounded, stately canopy for lawns and parks. Hummingbirds are drawn to its vivid spring flowers. For dramatic spring bloom on a substantial shade tree, Fort McNair is spectacular.
