Compact, bushy plants produce an abundance of 3.5-4"" wrinkled fruits over an extended period. When eaten in the green stage, as is traditional in Japan, peppers are incredibly crunchy with just a hint of heat. When red, the fruits are sweet and slightly hotter but not as crunchy. Perfect for frying, this Japanese heirloom’s fruits are usually mild, but an occasional pepper (about one in 10) is hot. Kitazawa Seed Company played an instrumental role in introducing ‘Shishito’ to the United States seed trade; Seed Savers Exchange acquired the variety in the 1980s from the Urban Farmerseed company of Convent Station, N.J. 80 days from transplant. Edible, ornamental, and perennial–an essential part of every kitchen garden. A patch of chives delights all of the senses. The smallest of all the Alliums, chives are considered by some to be the only species of Allium native to both the Old World and the New. The sulfur smell of the plant is said to repel garden insect pests while the flowers attract beneficial pollinators. This clumping onion survives winter in the Northeast and often blooms in early May. The green shoots are the first to come up in the spring, and can be used in warm winter tonic to ward off cool days. Be sure to let your chives flower though; they are a wonderful, oniony edible flower.

It is difficult, for gardeners of all ages, to resist touching this flower’s fluffy head, which is as soft as a bunny’s tail! Compact but showy, this annual ornamental grass is easily grown in a border, for use as a cut flower, or in a container. Drought-tolerant once established with a dwarf habit.

Growing Instructions: Sow seed indoors 1/4" deep. Plant out after the danger of frost has passed in late spring. Can also be directly sown outdoors 3 weeks before the last frost. Prefers light well- drained soil and will tolerate dry conditions.

Not only Irish eyes will smile at this unusual plant. Its bright green bells with their tiny white "clappers" are always a conversation piece. Turns straw-colored when dry—a very valuable, long-lasting dried flower. The strain in this packet was selected for its superior cut and/or dried flower use. Reseeds, often producing new plants the following year from self-sown seeds.

Pasilla means "little raisin" in Spanish, referring to the dark brown, wrinkled, dried form of the chilaca pepper. Fresh chilaca adds depth to red enchilada sauce and salsas. The dried pod, or pasilla, is a flavorful and important ingredient in traditional mole sauce. 1,000–2,000 Scoville heat units (mild). Plants are tobacco mosaic virus resistant.

When to Sow Outside: For mild climates only: 2 to 4 weeks after your average last frost date, when soil temperature is at least 70°F.

When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 8 to 10 weeks before transplanting. Ideal soil temperature for germination is 70°‒90°F. Transplant seedlings outside 2 to 4 weeks after your average last frost date, and when daytime temperatures are at least 70°F, and nighttime temperatures are at least 55°F. Also called gold string melon, spaghetti squash is unique among winter squashes; when cooked, the flesh falls away from the shell in strands like spaghetti, and retains a tender, yet al dente, texture. Savory flavor that is delicious, and low calorie, with a simple bit of butter and salt. Each plant can yield 5 to 7 squash.
