Unit price perSeed Savers Maiden's Gold Organic Tomato
$5.25
Unit price perTed Maiden of LaFollette, Tennessee, has grown and saved seeds from this variety since his father, Ernest Maiden, gave it to him in 1964. Ernest stewarded the variety in his own garden in Bristol, Virginia, after receiving its seeds from his father, Reverend Frank Maiden of Saltville, Virginia, at some point prior to 1956. In 2009 Ted rediscovered seed he had grown in 1987 stored in a box of photos that had remained packed during several moves he made while in the Air Force.
- 60-75 days from transplant
- Organic
- From the Collection
- Indeterminate - Fruit ripens throughout the season
- Dark orange fruits average 8-10 oz
This variety works for:
- Fresh eating
- Sauce
- Paste
- Canning
Store your tomatoes at room temperature. The flavor and texture of tomatoes suffer when the fruit is chilled.
Heirloom tomatoes are bred for their flavor and simple preparation best allows that intense flavor to shine through. Tomatoes can be sliced and drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper or layer slices with basil and mozzarella for a Caprese salad.
Roasted tomatoes have a richer, concentrated flavor.
There are hundreds of salsa recipes to try and most are dramatically improved with the use of heirloom tomatoes. Tomatoes are also the main ingredient in Gazpacho, a cold soup that is perfect for summer.
Instructions - Sow seeds indoors ¼" deep. Tomatoes are sensitive to freezing temperatures, so wait to transplant outdoors until the soil is warm. Plant in full sun.
- Start Indoors: 6 weeks before last frost
- Germination: 7-14 Days
- Plant Outdoors: 24-36” Apart
- Support: Cage, stake, or trellis

Unit price perThis aromatic, flowering landscape herb grows in mounds of soft gray-green leaves covered with a haze of shimmering lavender-blue flowers. Easy to grow catmint makes a beautiful spreading ground cover that blooms for weeks on end. Plant it under roses, in an herb garden, at the front of perennials or to cover bare corners of the garden with a soft wave of color. Many house cats adore its fragrance as much as its less attractive relative, catnip.

Unit price perSeed Savers Goose Organic Lettuce
$4.25
Unit price perWhat’s not to like? This looseleaf lettuce variety matures early, has a deliciously sweet taste and excellent texture, and looks spectacular, with lush green leaves tinged with red. Plants reach 7-9" in height and 12-16" in diameter at market maturity. Listed for years on the Exchange by Arkansas resident John Small, this lettuce was a staple in the garden of John’s great uncle, Joseph Bremer, a country doctor who, as John recalls, tended an “unusually productive garden which always included ‘Goose’ lettuce.” Seed Savers Exchange previously offered this variety in its 1997 Spring catalog. Looseleaf, 50-60 days. Organic.
- Organic
- Cold- and heat-tolerant
- Looseleaf lettuce
- Early Maturing
Instructions - Sow continuously for a constant supply of lettuce. Best grown in cooler weather. Plant in full sun or partial shade.

Unit price perSeed Savers Lunar White Carrot
$4.25
Unit price perPopular in the Middle Ages, white carrots are enjoying a renaissance thanks to their distinctive creamy-white color, vigorous productivity, and mild, sweet flavor. The roots of this variety reach 8-12" in length at maturity but can be harvested sooner for smaller carrots that are just as flavorful whether eaten fresh, steamed, or roasted. Plants are half-hardy to frost and light freezes; cooking brings out their sweet flavor.
- Creamy white
- Mild flavored, sweet and crisp
- Good for use as baby carrots
- Cylindrical roots grow 8-12 inches
- Adapts well to different conditions
- Stores well
- 75 days
- ±21,000 seeds/oz
Instructions - Sow seeds outdoors 3-4 weeks before last spring frost, or as soon as soil can be worked. Keeping soil moist throughout the germination period is important to success. Misting the planted area daily or covering is recommended. Carrots are slow to germinate and need steady moisture until germination. Sow successively throughout the season for fresh carrots.
