Rhododendron herbert

Unit price perBack for the 2026 season.
Herbert is transformed into a solid mass of pink with its vivid spring flowers. This evergreen Azalea blooms prolifically in early to mid spring with hot pink, funnel-shaped flowers, often covering the plant entirely. Grows slowly into a rounded mound. While fully evergreen in warmer climates, in the Chicago area the plant will shed its lower leaves over the winter. To ensure success this plant must have loose, acidic soil that drains well, and will fail in wet, heavy, poorly draining clay. Amend heavy clay soil with shredded pine bark and add soil sulfur to lower the pH. Best in morning or dappled sun with protection from strong winter sun and wind. Flower bud hardy to -20F.
