Here are some tips for caring for them in Hardiness Zone 5:

• Planting: Choose a well-drained location with ample sunlight for optimum growth. Dig a hole twice as wide as the tree’s root ball and plant at the same depth as it was in the nursery container.      
• Watering: Water newly planted trees regularly to help establish their roots systems. (At 75 degrees or cooler these trees need 1.5 inches of rain per week or supplemental hand watering). Once established, they are drought-tolerant but benefit from watering during prolonged dry spells.       
• Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. Remove any dead or damaged branches in late Winter or early Spring before new growth appears.
