Pear: Cleveland Select Flowering

Also known as Chanticleer this narrow ornamental pear is an excellent choice for smaller gardens. Grows quickly into a dense teardrop shape with symmetrical branching. Clusters of white flowers smother the bare branches in early spring. As the flowers fade heart-shaped, glossy deep green leaves emerge, turning long-lasting shades of purple and red in fall. The tree tends to color up and drop its leaves later than other trees. Sparsely produced fruit is small, inedible and not at all messy. Because of its tall and narrow habit Cleveland Select makes a suitable street tree as well as a tall hedge or screen.
