An interesting small evergreen tree with stark, stout branches and short needles; rather open appearance, a character tree, good for accent use in the garden; extremely long lived and slow growing, some living specimens are over 4,500 years old Bristlecone Pine has forest green foliage. The needles remain forest green throughout the winter. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. Bristlecone Pine is an evergreen tree with a strong central leader and an upright spreading habit of growth. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other landscape plants with finer foliage. This is a relatively low maintenance tree. When pruning is necessary, it is recommended to only trim back the new growth of the current season, other than to remove any dieback. It has no significant negative characteristics. Bristlecone Pine is recommended for the following landscape applications; Accent General Garden Use This tree should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers dry to average moisture levels with very well-drained soil, and will often die in standing water. It is considered to be drought-tolerant, and thus makes an ideal choice for xeriscaping or the moisture-conserving landscape. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is quite intolerant of urban pollution, therefore inner city or urban streetside plantings are best avoided, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. This species is native to parts of North America.

Delivery
We deliver outdoor plants within a zone around the Chicagoland. Currently, we are offering free delivery over $50, otherwise a $10 fee will be assessed. As plants are perishable, we take care to deliver them by hand using our own vehicles.

  • For plant material not planted by Chalet, there is a 1-year, 50% merchandise credit guarantee.

Planting

  • To add Chalet's Planting Service, standard pricing is 50% of the plants' retail price. 
  • Right now, our normal delivery fee of $75 is waived for orders over $50. 
  • Fees do not include tree or stump removal.
  • Larger orders may require separate labor quote. Plantings carry a 1-year full guarantee. However, there is no guarantee for container or planter plantings as they are difficult to overwinter. 

  
No-contact Curbside Pickup 

We offer free in-store pickup at our retail store at 3132 Lake Avenue in Wilmette, IL. During the coronavirus crisis, our store is not open to the public, but we are set up to accommodate your pickup orders. Please allow 3-5 hours after your order for processing. Also, please plan to pickup your items within one week of your order date.
