This trouble-free crab is a time-honored favorite. A profuse number of fragrant white flowers emerge from dark red buds in May, smothering the branches; the flowering may be heavy one year and lighter the next. Bright red, 1/3" to 1/2" berries ripen during during the summer and are enjoyed by birds. Dark green leaves with excellent disease resistance turn golden yellow in fall. Mounded, dense branching and wide spreading, Sargent makes a beautiful stand-alone specimen and can also be trimmed into formal rounded shapes.
