Stellar Pink Flowering Dogwood

This ornamental tree is stellar year round. In late spring to early summer fluttery soft pink flowers bloom for weeks atop leafy, layered branches. The flower petals (bracts) are rounded and overlapping. In fall the dark green, deeply veined leaves turn reddish purple. In winter the spreading, tiered branches create a lovely silhouette. Bark on trunks exfoliates into irregular patches adding additional interest. This variety is sterile and does not produce the fruit typical of other dogwood trees. Best in compost-rich, evenly moist, acid soil. Equally pretty as a stand-alone specimen or a more natural feature blending in with other plants in the dappled shade of woodland gardens.
