Satomi is a smaller, rosy red flowering dogwood ideal as a focal point near the patio or home. The horizontal, layered branches create a pleasing rounded form. In June creamy white, 4-petaled flowers (bracts) emerge, gradually become suffused with a rosy pink to reddish color as they age. Red, raspberry-like fruit that birds enjoy follow the flowers. Clean, dark green foliage turns various shades of yellow, orange, red and purple in fall, the color often persisting for weeks. The patchy gray-tan-rich brown bark that develops on older trees is a great winter feature. For best growth this tree requires loose, acidic and well-draining soil. We recommend amending heavy clay soil with shredded pine bark and adding soil sulfur to make it more acidic. Deer resistant and attracts wildlife!
