Wolf Eyes illuminates partly shaded gardens with its brightly colored leaves. The tree is small, rounded and compact in form with spreading branches featuring prominent white-margined leaves that turn an excellent, long-lasting pink to red in fall. Creamy white, 4-petaled flowers (bracts) in June are followed by red, raspberry-like fruit that birds enjoy. The patchy gray-tan-rich brown bark that develops on older trees is a great winter feature. For best growth this tree requires loose, acidic and well-draining soil. We recommend amending heavy clay soil with shredded pine bark and adding soil sulfur to make it more acidic.
