Huge flowers are the distinguishing feature of this beautiful flowering dogwood. In late spring to early summer 4" wide, snow white flowers bloom for weeks atop densely leafy, layered branches. The flower petals (bracts) are rounded and overlapping. In fall the dark green, deeply veined leaves turn reddish purple. In winter the spreading, tiered branches create a lovely silhouette. For best growth this tree requires loose, acidic and well-draining soil. We recommend amending heavy clay soil with shredded pine bark and adding soil sulfur to make it more acidic. Equally pretty as a stand-alone specimen or a more natural feature blending in with other plants in the dappled shade of woodland gardens.
